Virtual worlds for education may be finding theirself in the midst of a "perfect storm" - http://www.eschoolnews.com/news/top-news/?i=56330 (Via eschool News). Duke University is about to embark on a heavily funded project for a virtual world assessment infastructure that should be of interest to virtual world developers as it lays out a national standardized framework for self assessing virtual worlds (per state and national standards). The fact that Duke University spearheads the Cobalt virtual world project has not gone un-noticed --- http://opencobalt.org . Expect to hear more about this "virtual world assessment infrastructure" and a "Common Student Record" in the year to come.
