in the process of setting up some monitoring servers i noticed that my ns0 DNS server was showing offline. As i direct result of seeing the virtual server offline i identified that i had an old DNS entry in the whois record and i was able to correct it, i will know when the change has propagated when the server in the datacenter shows online :)
I had visions of this datacenter offering real monitoring solutions and it has actually help me!! I am also working on more in depth stats with html on…

A major fix has been added to the OpenSim server code, Trunk r5592 which AUGrid and OSgrid are now running requires that you have your regions up to this revision to allow secure inventory transactions. This instills futher faith in the software by ensuring your objects cannot be deleted or modified even when they have your UUID.
There is an option to disable by setting "secure_inventory_server = false" under [Network] in your OpenSim.ini.

The Augrid datacenter monitors servers for augrid and norgan networks, it can monitor all services that run on an IP port. Mysql, sims, web servers. it can monitor either windows or linux boxes even mac's.
I have added some pictures showing the first 2 racks full and the rack space in there now. the center is new and still being built but is technically capable now.
Look for some great new showcase technologies to showcase Opensims capabilities. :)

Life isn’t always easy. Some say life is a struggle, a challenge. We often hear the saying “up a creek without a paddle.” Life can be a test, you’re either prepared or unprepared. Who we become as adults is greatly influenced by the way we are raised as children. The abilities and skills to survive and excel in this test of life are forever ingrained in us by our parents and educators. In this fast-paced ever evolving world, the prepared are able to rise to the challenges of life and fortune of…

In reading Sophrosyne's excellent post with her comments on the article I'd written entitled "Virtual World Economics: “Fair Value for Professional Services" and the interesting post by Dale Innis in response, I felt this merited a new blog of its own. Soph's argument (and John Jainschigg's at http://www.zzomg.com) argue that the virtual world economy is colonial, third world country and introducing atomic world pricing for goods and services would have a negative impact.
I think though, that w…

I know I date myself by making the following observation. But it occurs to me that the (cough) 'younger generation' of technology users, by and large, have absolutely no clue what it's like to switch from one word processor to another, since during the entirety of their lifetime experience with computers, Microsoft Word has been the universal standard. (Microsoft's recent switch from the classic Word UI to the new, Vista-inspired Word 2007 UI has given some young users a taste of the experience.…

Every few years we see a major trend or shift in technology in the gaming industry that intends to redefine the way games are created thereafter. In the 90's we were introduced to the glory of 3D cards with the release of the Voodoo 1, which literally added a whole new perspective to games. The past few years everyone's been raving about 3D surround sound sys…

You often hear people discussing virtual worlds and the physical world as "RL", "1L" or "real life" and if they're in Second Life, referring to it as "SL". In regard to business that crosses both, I have a peeve about using the term "RL" or "real life". Business is as real as it gets, regardless of whether you're conducting it virtually or in the physical world. To infer that its make believe because your office or work is in virtual environments is bad for every professional working in or using…

What is the definition of New Media.
Surely Web2.0 is now old media.
The new media will be immersive 3D environments; using the technology developed by the CGI, gaming, and film industries will be the future media.
We need to start preparing for this rather than the 2D text, images and flashy flashy web sites with no content; just a front office metaphor.
I believe we should start planning now for the future revolution; we are at the beginning of a wave of change that will completely change…
