Digado | Mapping the Metaverse

Feel free to add me to your network!

Digado stands for Digital Adoption. Its the scenario I think will be most relevant for the future of the metaverse. A generation that regards 3d as a ‘natural environment’. The Xbox, playstation and PC generation. They will adopt the 3d worlds and see the benefits of the digital distribution, communication, education, information and entertainment as something that has always been part of their lives.

This blog lists my research, opinion and news regarding ‘the Metaverse’. A word I define as being a Virtual, Social Network. The goal of this network can be anything from entertainment (gaming worlds such as World of Warcraft), business and creativity (Second Life) all the way down to simply connecting people in a customizable environment (Cyworld).

The question that Digado seeks to answer is ‘how can we use Virtual Worlds in a realistic, meaningful way for the businesses of today and tomorrow’. There has been a lot of hype and information clutter surrounding virtual worlds. My objective is to distill the potential of this ‘new’ media, in a usable format. How can it help your business today, and how will it look 5 to 10 years from now.

The Power of Immersion

When I talk about ‘the immersion in virtual worlds’ it’s not uncommon I get a questioning look. Most of the time I use a simplified example of the Matrix - The Matrix illustrates complete, 100% artificial ‘immersion’ into virtuality. At first I get a smile and something along the lines of: “yes, but we don’t have a matrix yet”. Continue reading… Continue

On being Everything to Everyone

When the development of ‘Windlight’ (Second Life’s graphic improvements) was announced, it was greeted with much controversy. While some where happy about a graphics upgrade, most wondered about the priorities of Linden Lab. Continue reading

Mercedes drives home: Goodbye and Good riddance

Mercedes leaves Second Life, but on a positive note according to their latest blogpost. I think Mercedes just threw a lot of money at riding the ‘Second Life hype wave’ - but eventually found the attention to Second Life depleted, and could not muster the creativity to actually be remarkable themselves... Nice to meet you Digado. I have a feeling you will be a great asset to this association. Your experiences as a VW analyst will likely produce some excellent feedback for discussions, and I can already see your blog posts are going to be interesting. You'll probably have a bit in common with Mr. Porter too, as he's always trying to poke and prod around at the analytics of things.
I look forward to reading more of your commentss in the near future.

I was in a rush to finish reading you blog posts when I wrapped up the last comment Digado, but I wanted to make sure I let you know how appreciated it would be if you chose to participate in the Virtual Worlds of Tomorrow group and the discussions presented therein. Someone with your knowledge of analytics and blogging experience would assuredly provide some excellent input into both the social and technical aspects of the threads.
