Thank you for this. I have been approached to provide a fairground environment for sick and disabled children, and I am a bit unsure about how to provide the most positive experience for them. I want it to be a fun, learning and growing opportunity,…

Thank you. It does help. Finding financial resources and generating economic incentives may be the most practical and productive methods of helping students get into college, and to finish their degrees. Many of the students I have talked to can't a…

Thank you for such an insightful comment! I too have been exploring the gamming approach to education, and there is an incredible potential there. It reminds me a bit of the traditional Native American teaching technique called Coyote teaching where…

Myron, Part of the problem is, as you point out, the financing issue. College costs are so prohibitive. Fortunately there seems to be a movement to convert books into digital formats, and I have noticed virtual universities showing up online. All of…

You can also build your own virtual world, and set it up exactly the way you want. One of my students ran OpenSim with 4 regions from a thumb drive. So, you don't really need to dedicate vast resources to such a project. The hard part might be educa…

What can we do better?

I'm looking for ideas. How do we motivate people to attend college? What can we do to help college students succeed?
There has been a growing trend among students graduating from high school to skip going to college. So far, those making this choice have been in the minority, but unfortunately members of minority groups are the ones who most often make this choice. Time for a bit of fun!

. The Coyote country Saloon in Second Life has decided to have a "Dancing with the Avies" dance contest. Maybe a RL klutz like me could have a chance to do well in this, even though a number of friends have hinted, rather blatantly, that my avatar isn't quite eye candy (I made it to look like RL me, only thinner). It will be a lot of fun.
I’ll post the details here soon.
