Profile Information

Title/Affiliation:
IBM Senior Accredited IT Specialist, Software Engineer, Technologist, Web2.0 Enthusiast and Open-Networker.

Graduated in 2000 as an Engineer of Computer Science, specialty - Operating Systems (OS) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Systems, diploma is entitled "Modeling The Artificial Intelligence For The Real-Time Systems".

I started professional career in 1998 in the Game Development by joining a group of software developers and enthusiasts united by the common goals and interests. We founded our own startup-company and released a number of successful software products on a Windows platform. For our projects, I designed, scheduled and implemented Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the 3d real-time strategy-game (one of our projects), an Application Programming Interface (API) for programming intelligent sound effects and participated in the localization of the brand-name game (Heroes of Might Magic III) for the Russian Game-Software Market.

After that, I was one of the early employees of American company which focused on the producing the CAD/CAM Systems. I was involved throughout the all phases of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and provided software development, support and testing. I worked remotely in the globally distributed team with different time-zones. I designed and implemented API based on Windows Structured Exceptions Handling (SEH) model for the rest of developers in the team. Also, I was in charge of regression testing and by the request of project management to minimize manual and error-prone routine work I designed and implemented a software system which automated that process. The system was successfully internally deployed and that excluded the need to buy commercial products for testing of our products. It helped the company to improve the quality of software, minimize costs and to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Since April 2006, I'm working for the IBM at Russian Systems and Technology Laboratory (RSTL) in the area of software support/maintenance for IBM z/OS (mainframe's operating system). I'm a team-lead of a group of developers providing a software support for the z/OS File-System components. I'm active member of the different internal IBM communities of practice, participating and contributing to the IBM studies in the area of software development. Besides my primary tasks and responsibilities, I have a number of activities in the company towards consolidating technical leaders and establishing groups and communities to foster collaboration, share experience and knowledge assets, interconnect business lines and technical experts to support IBM's business in Russia.

I'm experienced in C++, Object-Oriented Applications Design (OOAD), Windows Mutli- Threading Applications, designing and implementing Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), Test Systems Automation, Quality Assurance. I'm familiar with various Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) including Microsoft Visual Studio, Eclipse, IBM Rational Developer for Z (Eclipse-based tool), IBM Rational Team Concert.

I'm interested in the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) disciplines, Agile/Scrum methodologies for co-located and distributed teams, Virtual Worlds and particularly in Second Life, Social Software and Web 2.0, Cloud Computing, IBM Jazz Platform and IBM Rational products based on that technology.
I have a specific interest in the area of modernization of software development tools for the developers on a IBM Mainframe Platform and IBM Jazz Platform.

Worlds.com Files Suit Against NCsoft for Patent Infringement

On Christmas Eve, Worlds.com filed a complaint against NCsoft for infringing on its virtual world and MMO patent. Worlds.com, which was one of the early virtual world developers from the '90s, made waves earlier this month when it announced that it had selected an intellectual property firm to defend its two patents related to scaling virtual spaces and enabling users to interact and chat in 3D environments.

Specifically, the suit cl… Continue

Can Second Life Make Your First Life Better?

A Stanford University study shows that people carry over the benefits of their Second Life avatars into their real lives. For example, people with avatars skinnier than their real selves go out and lose weight. The researchers call this the "Proteus effect."

You can extrapolate from this to see how complex, granular role-playing games can have positive effects on team dynamics, helping organizations with lots of remote workers or, worse, different parts of the organization located in different… Continue
