Sorry, I'm a continent away from NYC (though I used to live there). Have fun.
Meanwhile, I'm initiating a project-based learning exercise in Second Life -- a summer camp -- and looking to poach some students, since I don't have a ready-made batch on hand. Any suggestions?

@Adrian:
Eduserv have been publishing 'snapshots' of UK Higher Education activity in Second Life:
http://www.eduserv.org.uk/foundation/studies/slsnapshots

Currently it appears that around 1/2 of the Universities in the UK are active in Second Life to -some- degree.

FYI that American Society for Training and Development has a class every Wednesday from 12-1pm EST.
Note for this week: "Come to this week's ASTD Weekly Meet-up to sign up for a slot to experience a real "live" SL auto-respond bot"
Search ASTD in SL. I'll try to be there tomorrow. Cheers.

"If anybody has any information from UK side of things, would great to add them here too I think?"

Well, at Newcastle Business School we have a group of students on a teamwork and leadership skills undergraduate module who are involved in a live project with the charity group Tyneside Cynerians to develop a presence in Second Life leading to a possible charity event. I think little experiments are going on here and there across the board to be honest, so yes, it would be good to hear of more of them.

It would be great to hear about education ventures in gaming.
