Hi. I am writing to invite you to My Metaverse (http://www.mymetaverse.ning.com). My Metaverse is about developing the new media arts and community across all the virtual worlds. Here's where you can upload your original music, original machinima or movies, start a blog or comment on others, join a group like the musicians, the machinimatographers, the journalists, the comedians and actors - and of course any of the Virtual World groups. This is also a place where you can send out news stories to the online journalists in the NEWS group. Hope to see you there.

Hope to see you there soon

CTO needed

Ikatoo is an early stage start-up company specialising in innovative advertising solutions for virtual worlds. We are seeking a highly skilled programmer to serve as our CTO. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved in the earliest stages of an exciting Interactive Digital Media company with huge potential and work in a senior management position from the beginning.

We are looking for a highly motivated and resourceful candidate who can take a leadership role from the get go. You will have the opportunity to make a major impact in the development of our company. Joining Ikatoo at this stage could allow you to make more money in five years than any other job.

Your role will be to design the overall infrastructure of our system. We do not require expertise in a specific language, but instead the ability to learn new languages and become an expert fast. We need someone who is really good at what they do.

Qualified candidates please send your resume to Juan Herrada - juan@ikatoo.com

You're quite right Caleb. 'Milage May Vary' applies as well. It's a complex process, but should be based on your specific need. Some are in VWs simply for the social aspect, so heavy social networking aspects are important, and minimal cost is also desirable.

The other end of the range is immersive VWs where you need to invest in order to get started. SecondLife is one of the least expensive ways to become involved in a VW. More expensive and specialized VWs are available, such as Forterra or ProtoSphere. Another dimension to consider is your level of gaming interest; some worlds have a heavy game emphasis (Entropia) and others less so (Selective SL locations).

there's alot of different VR worlds out there, but the main thing is, how much are you willing to spend on them to get started, and get going in each one as a developer. Three popular ones that pop into my head right off the bat are Second Life, There.com and IMVU. Each with there own engine, there own toolset, so learning process for each one is a little different as well. One that I've been thinking about getting involved with for some time now, that not alot look at in retrospective, is Entropia Universe, probably not the cup of tea for everyone, but its one thats interested me for awhile.
