Some people find ADDIE to be an old fashioned way to approach design, but to me, ADDIE is an iterative process that will answer pretty much any question out there. It makes sense to use game theory as part of the design process but in my opinion and experience they are not mutually exclusive by any means.

Michelina, I see ADDIE as an interactive process (rather than a model) which allows any system to be analyzed and designed. However, I agree that game design and theory should be factored in (while utlizing that process) according to the content and context being taught. I know a lot of IDs think ADDIE is too basic, and there could be some truth to that, but so far I have been happy and successful using it for ID when using it as a process of design.

I co-created an orientation sim in Second Life using ADDIE and then applying motivational and a few other theories to it. It's a work in progress but I learned a LOT doing it.

ID for VWs is an area I'm very interested in - thanks for starting the group! I have to imagine that the standard ADDIE or Dick & Carey models for ID aren't sufficient for VWs instructional strategy. I would think that the elements of gaming design need to be factored in. What do you think?
