This system appears to be a little more advanced than OpenLife, but of course that comes at a price. OpenLife right now has intro pricing that is very attractive, but not many services or functions working yet. Both are worth investigating, and Central Grid may be more useful to me since I'm interested in connecting a server, and that's what Central Grid seems to be about. OpenLife says that's far in the future for them, although they do also plan to add the capability.

If your looking to get a server and configure it to connect to the Central Grid, this is a guilde.

The most stable version of the grid server operating system has been windows 2003 server. You will need an SVN Checkout software, used to download the updates of the opensim software. Microsoft C# Compiler, to complile the opensim source code to run on the windows 2003 server. Data storage of objects on the regions can be done using sqlite, mysql or ms sql. If you wish to connect to the central grid members website where you can dynamicly make changes to the server region configuration files, then you will need to install cold fusion. Using the opensim program, you will need to establish your regions on the server, then using a connection KEY you purchase from Central Grid (Part of the Estate Fee) you would then point your users, assets, inventory and grid server configuration to our main grid servers. Server owners must keep updated versions of the opensim to keep compatible to the main grid.

If your renting a server from Central Grid, then you do not have to worry about installed software. All the above software is installed and configured. OpenSim updates and data storage we manage on the server for you as part of the monthly dedicated server rental fee of $94 usd per month for 1-6 regions or $189 usd per month for 1-16 regions.

Central Grid is like a big grid map with 4 million regions. Small Independent Grids Operators come to the Central Grid and connect regions using grid servers from anywhere in the world. Central Grid will provide the central servers needed to manage the users, assets, inventory and grid connections. Our members website is a work in progress as more features are beng added daily. With Our website anyone can login, create an estate, rent one or more grid servers, then using the grid map they can select and name region locations and activate regions. Then they can rename, move and sell the region on the website. No tech skills reguired using this system.
